Lindsay arrived in Butte in 1889 as Daly's private secretary and legal counsel before eventually taking the bench. Lindsay understood mining. He understood mineral rights. He understood the value-and uncertainty-of Montana's mineral ground. And yet, among the many claims and properties that passed through the hands of men of his era, the Sparo remained one he held.
